چکیده

Electroosmotic pumps have been prepared using macroporous polymer monoliths with their pore surface grafted with the ionizable monomers 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid and [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]trimethyl ammonium chloride, respectively. The effects of critical parameters such as pore size of the monolith, percentage of ionizable moieties in the grafted layer, crosslinking density, and driving voltage on both flow rate and pressure have been quantified. Electroosmotic pumps fabricated from the grafted monoliths afforded pressures as high as 0.38 MPa and electric-field-specific flow rates of up to 0.41 ml/min, both at an applied potential of 50 V. © 2003 Elsevier B.V. Electrochromatography in microchips: reversed-phase separation of peptides and amino acids using photopatterned rigid polymer monoliths.

A microfabricated glass chip containing fluidic channels filled with polymer monolith has been developed for reversed-phase electrochromatography. Acrylate-based porous polymer monoliths were cast in the channels by photopolymerization to serve as a robust and uniform stationary phase. UV light-initiated polymerization allows for patterning of polymer stationary phase in the microchip, analogou...

An integrated micropump and electrospray emitter system based on porous silica monoliths.

The work presents the design of an integrated system consisting of a high-pressure electroosmotic (EO) micropump and a microporous monolithic emitter, which together generate a stable and robust electrospray. Both the micropump and electrospray emitter are fabricated using a sol-gel process. Upon application of an electric potential of sufficient amplitude (>2 kV), the pump delivers fluids with...

Porous glass electroosmotic pumps: theory.

This paper presents an analytical study of electroosmotic (EO) pumps with porous pumping structures. We have developed an analytical model to solve for electroosmotic flow rate, pump current, and thermodynamic efficiency as a function of pump pressure load for porous-structure EO pumps. The model uses a symmetric electrolyte approximation valid for the high-zeta-potential regime and numerically...

Electroosmotic flow pumps with polymer frits

Electroosmotic flow (EOF) pumps with flow rates on the order of 1 ml/min have been designed and fabricated. These pumps use EOF to propel liquid solutions in a compact system with no moving parts. The pumping chamber is filled with densely packed non-porous silica particles, and the particle bed is held in place using two polymeric porous frits. The pump frame is made of acrylic, the frits are ...

Low-voltage electroosmotic pumps fabricated from track-etched polymer membranes.

Track-etched polymer membranes are used to realize low-voltage electroosmotic (EO) pumps. The nanopores in polycarbonate (PC) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) membranes were fabricated by the track-etching technique, the pore diameter was controlled in the range of 100 to 250 nm by adjusting the etching time. The results show that these EO pumps can provide high flow rates at low applied vo...
